How we secured the second position in Masai School's intensive build week

A project of cloning Furlenco, a furniture renting app.

Deadline of four days.

A team of three.

The Journey

As usual, we were divided into groups of three. Each group was asked to dynamically clone an e-commerce app. We got the app, Furlenco, an app that is used to rent furniture in major metropolitan cities in India. All three of us connected on a call and planned what should be done to give it the needed functionalities like login & adding items to the cart. We planned to include Search and many more features but due to time constraints, we could only complete the aforementioned two. This build week taught me that if we'd planned better, we could've done even better than what we did.

The Challenge

The new unit brought new challenges and this unit's biggest challenge was creating a JSON file on our own to fetch data from an API we created locally. Lost a whole day in just figuring out that and creating it according to our requirements. But it finally worked without any error and we were able to populate the lists and screens we created. Since a lot of time went into this, we stopped trying for more features and started polishing on what we got right.

The Presentation

We knew what we had done wasn't a lot but if we present it in a way that was appealing, we'd cut it to Top 5. So we worked on our flow and tone for a lot of time. We also were given a chance to record it multiple times till we're satisfied. So that gave us an edge and also time to practice. After submitting the presentation, I had my lunch and slept since I was up for nearly 30 hours just coding and doing nothing else. I was surprisingly woken up by my teammate that we were in the Top 5. We had a couple of dry runs again for the final competition and with that, we gave a very crisp and confident presentation. After looking at the Web Teams' clones of Netflix & Amazon Prime Video, I lost all hope of winning. But to my surprise, we got the second position. Though we didn't have more functionalities in our app, we tried to present what we did in the most effective way and we aced it with flying colors. Treasuring these wonderful teachings for the next unit and the memories of (almost) winning the competition for a lifetime.
